Dairy reopens after flood

It's been nearly a year since the Kowhai Park Dairy was inundated in Whanganui's biggest flood. Today the dairy has reopened for the first time since then, with new owners and a new look.

The new owners are husband and wife Chenda Pov and Simean Ouk, who also own the Ingestre St Food Mill.

"We didn't own [the dairy] during the floods but we heard the water was about 1m high through the shop," Mr Pov said.

Since the couple took over the shop three weeks ago they have been extremely busy getting ready to reopen.

From today, the dairy will be open 5.30am to 7pm, seven days a week.

Mr Pov said it would offer the usual grocery products found in a dairy as well as freshly made food.

"It will be like what we have at Ingestre St Food Mill, but not as big."

He said the food would be made in the dairy's industrial kitchen, or at the Food Mill.

The Kowhai Park Dairy is at the corner of Anzac Pde and Nile St, opposite Kowhai Park.
