August 21 2021 There are 21 new cases of Covid-19 in the community - bringing the total number of people infected in the latest outbreak to 51.

SCROLL DOWN FOR THE FULL LIST OF LOCATIONS OF INTEREST

There are now four new locations of interest in the central North Island as the latest Covid-19 outbreak continues to grow.

The latest number of locations of interest has hit 179, with 219 visits and affects thousands of people. Until today, the Ministry of Health had only listed locations in Auckland, Wellington and the Coromandel.

But today's update includes Bulls, Waiouru and Tokoroa.

The new locations were all visited on Monday, August 16 and are:

• BP Tokoroa at 32 Main Rd between 3pm and 4pm.

Anyone who visited these locations at those times may be a contact of Covid-19 cases in the community.

The Ministry of Health says those who have been at any of these locations of interest during the relevant time are asked to get a test immediately, self-isolate and call Healthline on 0800 358 5453.

Those who were not at the locations of interest at the relevant time, do not need to be tested.

A Whanganui DHB spokesman said people affected should get tested as soon as possible, as well as those with cold or flu-like symptoms or who had contact with a positive case.

He said the locations of interest did not mean the virus was in the community and people should be reassured that local health services were ready to handle any cases should they arise.

Testing at the community testing centre at Whanganui Hospital is open from 8am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

And testing will also be available at Living Waters Medical in Rakau Road, Castlecliff, from Monday, with a CBAC operating there from 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Covid-19 testing is available in Marton, Bulls, Taihape and Ruapehu through local GP clinics and health centres. People who wish to be tested should contact the practices to organise appointments.

There is also a community testing centre at 575 Main Street, Palmerston North, open 9am to 4pm each day.

The locations were revealed today as part of the Ministry of Health's update which included 21 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the community - bringing the total number of people infected in the latest outbreak to 51.

Three Wellington supermarkets, the AUT city campus, a new Auckland bus route and dairy are among other locations added to a ballooning list.

New locations added today include: Countdown in Newtown, Pak'nSave in Kilbirnie, Asian Food Specialist in Kilbirnie, Lumino, Glenfield Dental Centre, Roscommon Superette in Manurewa, Bus 129 from Don Buck Rd in Massey to Auckland CBD, and AUT City campus on August 11.

Auckland University and De la Salle College have also been added.

New students at AUT, the University of Auckland and Auckland's De la Salle College and McAuley High School have tested positive and attended classes while infectious.

University of Auckland vice-chancellor Dawn Freshwater emailed staff to say a student - who lived in a university hall with 160 others - attended classes on Monday and Tuesday this week.

They then travelled to Wellington to be with family before testing positive, Freshwater said.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said today that locations of interest dating prior to August 7 have been removed, with testing of the New South Wales traveller giving more confidence of when Covid-19 got into the community. They had previously dated back to August 1.

Officials have about 90 per cent confidence in the theory that the source came from the recent returnee from Sydney.

Ardern said she did not think the latest outbreak had hit its peak.

Because Auckland is at the centre of the outbreak it was "very likely" restrictions would remain beyond Tuesday, Ardern said.

Cabinet is meeting on Monday to make a decision on the country's alert level 4 lockdown restrictions.

Ardern said she expects cases to rise into early next week before they start to drop.
