Turakina Maori Girls' College celebrated their successes this year with an emotional but forward-looking annual prizegiving on Saturday.

Video---

Punctuated with astonishing singing which sounded like 150 students rather than 50, the ceremony acknowledged the school's greats for sports, culture and academia.

The crescendo of the morning was the presentation of the dux award to Ella Lyon and acknowledgment of her winning a University of Auckland Scholarship for 2016, worth more than $50,000. The scholarship is given for "exceptional levels of academic excellence, all round ability and leadership" and 121 are awarded from the 1300 applicants.
