Residents and staff at Jane Winstone retirement village are on a mission to collect items to donate to the City Mission Food Bank.
And they want to challenge other businesses and organisations to do the same.
Jane Winstone activities co-ordinator Rochelle Taylor says they are collecting until November 18, but people are
bringing things in every day.
"If we can get a challenge out to other organisations in Whanganui - and it doesn't have to be rest homes, nor does it have to be for Food Bank. It could be for SPCA, for example. They're all deserving causes. With something like this you can make a difference, and it's really easy."
It was Rochelle's idea.
"When you're one person you can only donate a few cans and that's it, but in a situation like this, and I knew all the staff and the manager would get behind it, you can make a real difference then. And there are so many people struggling at the moment."
Wayne Thompson, Jane Winstone manager (and Ryman's Manager of the Year, 2016) fully supports his activities co-ordinator's efforts and extends the challenge to others.
