Civil defence advice for Wanganui

At a Civil Defence briefing this morning, some advice was given for Wanganui residents dealing with the aftermath of yesterday's big floods:

*Stay away from floodwaters. There is sewage in the floodwaters so treat them as contaminated.

*All drinking water is safe. However, the city's supply is low so please use it sparingly.

*If you wish to help, please check that your neighbours are okay and those in your immediate area.

*If you've been evacuated, or you self-evacuated, do not attempt to return to your house today.

*Do not begin cleaning up your property today. Hoses should not be used as the city water supply is currently low.

*All roads in and out of Wanganui are still closed, as well as a number of urban roads.
