A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the burglary of two Wanganui pharmacies.

Jason Karl Mead, 40, appeared in the Wanganui District Court yesterday on two counts of burglary, possession of a cannabis plant and possession of a firearm.

Mead's arrest follows the burglaries of Gonville Health Pharmacy and Wicksteed Pharmacy, which were broken into within hours of each other on August 12.

The theft of a blood thinning drug and various other drugs was common to both burglaries. He was remanded in custody to August 28.
