Changes ahead for Fordell Preschool

Fordell Preschool will soon get its own bike track - and may be expanding its hours.

Parents and teachers recently held a working bee to begin work on the track, which will run around the perimeter of the preschool's playground.

Fordell Preschool co-chairs Tim Spetch and Kim Houlahan said a lot of the preschool's children brought their own bikes with them.

"But we're also hoping to have some bikes donated to the preschool. Obviously our kids will be able to use the preschool, but it will also be available for the Fordell community to use," Mr Spetch said.

Grange Transport donated the shellrock for the track, and the work will be entirely volunteer.

Ms Houlahan said the preschool was also planning to expand its hours.

"At the moment we are open four days a week, but we're hoping that by next year it will be up to five days. We hope to set up an after-school programme as well."

Mr Spetch said there were currently 23 families with children at the school. Many of the pupils then went on to Fordell School - just across the fence.

"We have an awesome relationship with the school. It's really easy for the children to transition to the school because it's just over the fence. Many of our kids have siblings who go to the school," he said.

Mr Spetch said the preschool made use of the school's library and other facilities.
