Wanganui Collegiate's champion runner Geordie Beamish added another national title to the resume with victory in the senior boys section of the New Zealand Schools Cross Country in Palmerston North on Saturday.
Competing in the deepest division against around 210 runners, Beamish's good lead-up form continued from winning at theDorne Cup meeting at Trentham earlier this month
Athletics guru Alec McNab said it was a Beamish family double as Geordie's brother Hugh had also won this national title in Tauranga in 2006.
"The Beamish family follow the Wilsons and Bozzone as the only sets of brothers to win the senior boys titles."
Beamish has been selected for the NZ Schools Team to compete in Western Australia in August. He will be joined by Collegiate teammate Alice Bird, who finished 10th in the senior girls.
It is a busy schedule for Beamish, who is also aiming to compete at the NZ Club Championships in August.
In Palmerston North, the Collegiate senior girls collectively finished second in both the three and six-to-score team races, while the Collegiate Year 9 girls' team finished third in the three-to-score and second in the six-to-score standings.
