A power cut in the Gonville area this morning affected 2,863 Powerco customers. Photo / NZME.

The cause of a power outage in Whanganui on Tuesday morning is under investigation.

Power was cut to 2863 properties for nine minutes at 10.24am.

A Powerco spokeswoman said the power went out in the Gonville area, affecting 2863 customers.

Parts of the CBD were also affected.

The power was restored to all customers by 10.33am.
