About 70 children living with cancer have been enjoying a week to focus on nothing but having fun.
Camp Quality has been based in Rangitikei this week enjoying activities in the central North Island.
The children, each with an adult companion along with about 30 staff, are staying at NgaTawa in Marton from Tuesday to Sunday. Activities so far have included visiting Owlcatraz in Shannon, a trip to Foxton Beach, a day at Manfeild, along with mini-putt and bowls.
The theme for this year's camp was Disney with the children dressing up yesterday afternoon for a parade down the main street.
"It just takes minds away from all the stress of everyday life," media liaison Trish Fryer said.
"Throughout the year we fundraise to make sure the costs are covered and we're always looking for grants and sponsorship."
The camp had also been based in Marton last year and would be returning next year. "It's an awesome base. Last year we went out to Duddings Lake and to the river and had a farm day," Mrs Fryer said.
After first launching in Australia, Camp Quality was established in New Zealand in 1985 and aims to make a difference to children aged 5-16 years who live with cancer. It provides annual summer camps and year-round support to help children and their families overcome the challenges of living with cancer, at no cost to families.
