Buskers tune up for music month event

New Zealand Music Month is being celebrated in Wanganui with the second annual Great Busk Off.

Organised by Mainstreet Wanganui, the Great Busk Off is an opportunity to showcase local talent who will be competing for your vote to become Wanganui's favourite busker.

Elise Goodge from Mainstreet said the first Great Busk Off was held last year.

"It was so well attended that Mainstreet decided it had to become an annual fixture on the calendar of events," Ms Goodge said.

The event will be held between 11am and 2pm on May 3 throughout the CBD.

Starting at Majestic Square, visitors can collect a map of where all the buskers are and buy voting tokens for 50c each to put in the hat, case, or box of their favourite busker.

Then at 2pm all buskers will make their way to Majestic Square where their tokens will be counted.

"The busker with the most tokens wins $500, the busker with the second highest number wins $300 and third wins $200.

"Plus this year Mainstreet has increased its contribution to the event so that all buskers can have their tokens paid out on the day, ensuring no busker goes home empty handed," Ms Goodge said.
