Business is pouring through the gates for a Whanganui dog care operation.
Five years ago Kelly Jordan started Kelsview Kennels because she said there was a real need for high security kennels in Whanganui.
"We started of with 11 kennels, and now we have 28. Our business has really grownwhich shows the demand," Mrs Jordan said.
Two weeks prior to starting the business Mrs Jordan worked as a animal control officer for the Whanganui District Council.
Starting out as a purpose-built dog boarding complex, Mrs Jordan said she has expanded her business to offer a range dog-related services.
Mrs Jordan said dog safety education has been a real focus.
"I started off with one contract, now I'm contracted out to two councils - Rangitikei District Council and Manawatu District Council so I go and educate in their schools."
She also provides education to adult learning environments like probation officers and district nurses.
For the last two years Mrs Jordan has also offered a dog day care two days a week.
"I had a lot of clients asking me if we would run this service because I think there is a real need for dog socialisation."
With all the dog care demand Mrs Jordan has taken a "right-hand girl" to help for the workload. Emily Mooij has been working for Mrs Jordan for just over a year.
She said dogs come through from as far as Wellington because they know their pets are in good hands.
"Because of security and they way our kennels have been built we can have a little fluffy dog right next to a classified dog and it doesn't affect them.
"I'm proud to say I've never had a dog fight up here and never had to take a dog to hospital...and that's not by luck, that's good dog handling," Mrs Jordan said.
The business offers six different services including; boarding, day care, grooming, walking, adult dog education and school trips.
Next on the list - VIP kennels, Mrs Jordan said.
