A new and improved information leaflet on one of Whanganui's "jewels" will be read around the world, according to mayor Hamish McDouall.

The Rotary Club of Wanganui North first released its brochure on Rotokawau Virginia Lake three and a half years ago but the original 7000 copies have gone.

With support from the Virginia Lake Trust an updated batch of 5000 new ones have been printed and were handed over to the iSite via Whanganui Mayor Hamish McDouall on Monday.

Rotary and trust member Terry Coxan said they decided to double the size of the leaflet and add a map of the lake, along with historical information and a piece about Powerco's donation towards yet to be installed lights.

The Virginia Lake Trust paid for this 5000 copy run with support from H & A Print.

McDouall said have tourist brochures were valuable because they were tactile and often kept after a visit.

"They are a reminder of a great time and a beautiful place and I don't think there's any more beautiful place in Whanganui than Virginia Lake," he said.

"This will travel to France and Germany and Sweden and everywhere else. This not only informs but becomes a souvenir."
