Rates rise 7pc
Horizons Regional Council rates are to rise an average 7 per cent in year 1 and 5 per cent then 3 per cent in the following two years, as a result of councillors adopting the council's 2018-28 Long-Term Plan.

The actual increases per property will vary, depending on property values and rates targeted at local issues. The council is to begin rating $50,000 a year to make properties in Whanganui's Anzac Pde more resilient to floods, and to put $4.9 million into repairing structures on the lower Whanganui River over the next 30 years.
