Wanganui Collegiate is hosting two Wellington musicians who are giving an evening recital for bassoon and organ in the school chapel on Monday night.
Leni Mackle and David Dobson will play music from the classical and jazz repertoires and proceeds from the recital will go to the collegiate organ restorationfund.
The Wanganui Collegiate School Old Boys Association (now Old Boys and Girls Association) purchased the Lawton and Osborne Organ after World War I to comemmorate past pupils and staff who lost their lives to war.
Organ Restoration Fund committee chairman Gordon Craig said the 2176 pipe organ was commissioned from Scotland.
"The first delivery was thwarted due to a fire on board the delivery ship in Auckland Harbour. The replacement organ eventually arrived and was installed in 1926."
The committee has raised $170,000 towards having the organ restored by The South Island Organ Co of Timaru. Mr Craig said a further $350,000 is needed to pay for restoration of the musically and historically significant instrument.
"This concert will make a small but valued contribution to our fundraising with hopefully some attendees tempted to also become an 'organ donor' through our listed charity."
Bassoon and Organ Recital: Leni Mackle (bassoon) and David Dobson (organ) will play in the Wanganui Collegiate School Chapel. Monday, May 1 at 7pm. $10 entry towards organ restoration fund.
