Budding artists have a space they can now call their own and the art classes are free.
However, if the artists can make a small koha, that will also be welcomed.
The Whanganui Creative Space (WCS) is held once a week in the Community Arts Centre in Taupo Quay but alternative space may have to be found if the exhibition space is required.
The WCS Trust started in 2010 after workshops were held and from these, it was found there was a gap in accessibility to barrier-free arts and crafts activities for those who had physical and financial constraints.
Trust member Corrie Struijck said the three-hour session was free and open to all those in the community with special needs who wanted to explore their creativity.
June MacKay, a fine arts tutor, is contracted to guide those who attend the sessions.
Mrs Struijck said they had funding to pay Ms MacKay but also relied on volunteers to assist during the class.
The trust is asking the community for donations of materials such as clay, mosaic pieces, a guillotine for paper and a touch-screen computer for those who cannot hold a brush.
WCS Trust chairwoman Lucy Cowie said there were no time constraints during the three-hour sessions; participants were free to choose when they arrived and when they left.
If you can volunteer your time or have materials you'd like to donate for the art classes, contact whanganuicreativespace@gmail.com, or Corrie on 345 2218.
