The Z petrol station on Whanganui's Dublin Street, scene of an armed robbery on Saturday night.

Two armed men robbed the Z service station on Dublin Street on Friday night.

It was the latest in a run of dairy and service station raids that have plagued Whanganui.

Police were called about 8:05pm to the Z station near Dublin St bridge. They said two males reportedly entered the premises armed with weapons (not firearms) and stole cigarettes.

A police spokeswoman said the thieves then left the store.

Police are in the area speaking to a number of witnesses and making further inquiries.
