Whanganui Opera Week supports the New Zealand Opera School each summer and organisers say tickets for 2018 events are selling fast.

Students from across New Zealand join their internationally renowned tutors and accompanists at Wanganui Collegiate School for two weeks' intensive training of vocal and stagecraft skills.

The 2018 Whanganui Opera Week events will start with a lunch and recital presented by The Dame Malvina Major Scholars at Heritage House on January 10.

On Friday, January 12, there will be a public masterclass with tutor Cesar Ulloa at the Prince Edward Auditorium and the ever popular service at Collegiate School Chapel on Sunday, January 14.

Tutor Della Jones will hold a public masterclass at Prince Edward Auditorium on January 15 and Dining with Opera is back this year when Whanganui restaurants Big Orange, Element Cafe & Restaurant, Quality Inn Collegiate and the Red Lion host students to sing to dinner guests.

Della Jones and Cesar Ulloa will discuss their "Desert Island Disc selection" before an audience at Prince Edward Auditorium.

And on Saturday, January 20 all the students will present Great Opera Moments 2018 - an evening of arias staged in a magical way on the Royal Wanganui Opera House stage.
