A flat white with your ammo, a muffin with your fishing rod or even a scone with your thermals.
A new site on Carlton Avenue for Hunting & Fishing Wanganui will move the great outdoors into something a little more cosy with an in-store café.
The new store opens in early November,
replacing its premises at the Mitre 10 Mega complex on Taupo Quay.
Owners and brothers-in-arms Keryn and Chris Amon say although they may not have the same customers buying hunting gear and queuing for a cappuccino, it is all part of the store widening its appeal beyond the grassroots hunting and fishing market.
Keryn says it is not just a man's shop, it has something for everyone.
"Fishing is a great family sport. For anyone who enjoys the outdoors, we've got something for them. But even if you're not into the outdoors, everyone needs clothing, especially thermals in the winter."
They also want to cater for their loyal customers coming from out of town, who bring their families to do the grocery shopping at the same time.
"If they can put their feet up here that's cool as well," Keryn said.
He said the new site would capture customers passing through town that would not normally stop in Wanganui.
The store has been at the Taupo Quay site for five years but Mr Amon said it was no longer making financial sense to stay put.
"Rent's getting to the point now where it justifies owning our own building and we also want to get where we can have a bigger profile and set up as we want."
He estimates about 15,000 cars pass by the site every day, making the store more visible to people passing through.
"There'll be something for the whole family to do, both our wives will have a big input with decorating and getting the café up and running."
The current store, run by their sister, Nicola, and her husband, Clinton Skedgewell, will continue operating as normal until the new site opens.
A photo competition will be launched in the coming months with the winner announced at the opening.
