Wanganui is to receive a second visit from a foreign ambassador next week.
United States ambassador David Huebner visited when the Eagles were in town during the Rugby World Cup and, next Thursday, Mexican ambassador Leonora Rueda will tour businesses and attend a reception hosted by the Whanganui Employers' Chamberof Commerce.
Chamber regional and export manager Liam Jensen is hoping the visit will help deepen export ties with Mexico.
Mexico has a population of 113 million and was New Zealand's 24th biggest export market in 2010. Ms Rueda will take a particular interest in agribusiness, ICT and food processing. "Wanganui is an unheralded centre of export excellence," Mr Jensen said, citing companies such as Pacific Helmets and Tasman Tanning.
Ms Rueda will spend the morning in Palmerston North, the afternoon in Wanganui and then attend a drinks reception at Heritage House from 4.30pm to 8.30pm on March 15. Business people wishing to go to the reception need to book with the chamber before March 12 by ringing 345 0800 or emailing bronnie@wanganuichamber.co.nz.
Business people are also invited to a one-hour seminar on Cloud Computing on March 13. It's at Cooks Gardens Event Centre, starting at 4pm, and run by ComputerCare New Zealand. Those attending need to register by March 12, by emailing events@computercare.co.nz.
