Wanganui's free TechEx 2012 starts on Friday, and it will give everyone a great opportunity to see how UFB availability will transform our work and home environments.

The event is being held at the War Memorial Centre until Sunday and will showcase the latest technology and enable you to find out more about how you can use and access this technology wherever, whenever and whoever you are.

The War Memorial Main Hall will be full of over 40 exhibitors from diverse fields and sectors but they will have one thing in common - the innovative use of technology.

Make a point of taking details of your current phone costs, broadband costs and data caps with you, so you can compare your current costs with those FX Networks offers.

(FX Networks is the only retail service provider with a stand at TechEx.)

Business session

During a session to be held in the concert chamber from 3pm to 4.30pm tomorrow, the following speakers will describe how UFB availability will change the business environment.

Jayson Herewini, director, Mobile Traffic 2.0

Jayson will explain there are more mobile phones than televisions in the world, that the mobile device arena is growing exponentially, and what that means for your business. Jayson will tell you how easy it is to raise your mobile profile and also to increase revenue. His interactive session will examine:

What role smart phones play in decision making for products and services

Brett Rawcliff, Cloud HQ, ComputerCare NZ Limited

Brett will describe how to "access everything, from anywhere, at any time," and inter-device operability (connecting your devices to each other and to the Cloud) and ComputerCare's NZ Data Protection Services.

Jason Simons, information services manager, Wanganui District Council

Jason will explain how ultrafast broadband (UFB) will change the way we do business, and:

How UFB-based services are already saving Wanganui District Council money

How UFB enables new services to be provided to ratepayers and businesses, which would otherwise be unaffordable.

Rural session

In the concert chamber from 1.30pm to 3pm on Saturday, speakers will discuss subjects for those living in rural areas who are less well served in terms of broadband.

They will, however, demonstrate that despite this, forward-thinking companies and individuals are already providing online services which can increase innovation, planning and productivity.

David Matthews, Wanganui Rural Community Board.

David (Tex) will describe how, being frustrated at the lack of any broadband capacity at Kakatahi, he took matters into his own hands and set about working out how he could get connected. Tex worked with James Watts from Inspire (a Palmerston North retail service provider) and his no-nonsense attitude, coupled with James' innovative and solutions-focused approach have already caused many towers to start popping up all over rural Wanganui. Tex will explain how he is doing it, how it all works, what it looks like and how much it costs.

Richard Li, manager enterprise information services Beef + Lamb New Zealand

Richard will explain:

How the rollout of RBI and UFB provide a good platform to build an integrated information portal.

How this will be an important tool for providing sheep and beef farmers with information and will allow for a greater connection between farmers, the wider industry and all interest groups.

He will speak about B+LNZ's online information initiative to enhance the performance assessment, benchmarking and sheep planning capability for the rural users and information transformation from farm survey to end users. He will also discuss the lessons, impact and challenges from their development and end users' experience.

Bridgit Hawkins, CEO, Regen Effluent Management Made Easier

Bridgit will describe how, thanks to Kiwi ingenuity and clever science, dairy farmers can receive specific, daily recommendations about when to apply effluent and exactly how much.

Bridgit will discuss how:

Kiwi company, Regen Ltd created the smart tool, Re:Gen Messenger which helps farmers manage and monitor dairy effluent disposal.

How Regen helps save money, increase efficiency and reduce waste.
