Whanganui best friends and flatmates Tracy Torrey and Andy McKay have found a new home where their four-legged family is also welcome.

Last week the Whanganui Chronicle reported that Torrey and McKay were desperate to find a rental property after the Hinau St home they had lived in for 10 years was sold following the death of their landlord.

The pair feared they would have to live in their cars because they could not find a rental where they were allowed to have their elderly greyhound and six elderly cats.

The deadline to move out of the Hinau St property was last Friday but a member of the former landlord's family got them an extension until midnight on Sunday and they managed to find a new rental.

"It's lovely, it's brand new," Torrey said.

"Bradley Watson, of The Watsons, has been helping us and he's been really cool. We got the house through them.

"We looked at whether we could buy our own place but we couldn't come up with enough for a deposit."

Torrey said she and McKay and the animals were now settling into their new home which is owned by an Auckland investor.
