A man was sentenced to 150 hours of community work by Judge Garry Barkle for cultivating cannabis and possessing a pipe for the consumption of cannabis in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday.
Whanganui police executed a search warrant at the residence of Mitchell Lee Cole and police prosecutor Stephen Butler told the court of their discoveries.
"The search of the dwelling located three cannabis plants growing in a wardrobe inside the house, the plants were approximately 12 centimetres tall and were planted with potting mix.
"On a further section of land located adjacent to the house, police located a further 12 cannabis plants, these plants were approximately 14 centimetres tall and were planted in a wooden box covered by clear plastic."
The 12 plants were not found to belong to Cole, who admitted to cultivating the three plants in his wardrobe and told police that it was for his own personal use, which they accepted.
