Marist premier coach Jerome McCrea has called time on the job to take on the role as rugby education officer for the Wanganui Rugby Union.

Marist premier coach Jerome McCrea has called time on the job to take on the role as rugby education officer for the Wanganui Rugby Union.

Dave Hoskin Carrier Marist coach Jerome McCrea will pull pin on the job at the end of the season after being named Wanganui Rugby Union's referee education officer.

A referee himself for 12 years covering all grades of the code, McCrea will replace Matt Peters who has stood down after seven years in the position. McCrea's CV includes four premier club finals.

WRU chief executive Bridget Belsham said McCrea will begin in his new role on August 6 when the club rugby season has ended to avoid any potential conflict with his role as Marist premier coach.

McCrea, however, has also been named coach of the Whanganui Development team.

McCrea has been commissioned to promote and implement initiatives that increase recruitment, retention, training and education of referees.
