SKIP Whanganui wants parents to know that they are not alone on their parenting journey.
SKIP stands for Strategies with Kids, Information for Parents, and in Whanganui, the parent-led initiative has been supporting parents since July 2016.
Tonight, SKIP Whanganui will premiere its video to highlight the value of parents supporting parents, and to promote the role of Parent Leader. Developed in partnership with Lamp Studios the video documents the significant changes that have come about for parents of young children in Whanganui as a result of the groups meeting each week.
Designed by Whanganui parents, the SKIP initiative is aimed primarily at parents of children 5 years old and under. Parent Leaders facilitate groups in their own neighbourhoods to support and encourage fellow mums and dads who might not otherwise have a strong social network.
Lead facilitator Lynnette Archer says some of the parents who attend might feel quite isolated were it not for the groups.
