Whanganui's district council moved into a brave new world yesterday when its meeting was live streamed.
It was the first meeting of the new council elected in October and means from now on council meetings will be able to be viewed from anywhere around the world on an electronic device.
The streaming, on the council's website and Facebook page, is being managed by Lamp Studios and its team of three monitored two stationary cameras and a computer inside the council chambers.
To complement the new coverage, councillors were briefed by Mayor Hamish McDouall on proper use of desktop microphones to make sure their pearls of wisdom were clearly picked up for broadcast.
Mr McDouall said some would regard the live streaming as normal and essential while for others it might take some getting used to.
