On June 25, Lyric Singers will present their midwinter concert, Reach For the Stars.

The varied programme will have wide appeal and includes show music, a Disney medley, a sacred bracket, along with choral arrangements of songs with an Olympic theme.

The concert will conclude with Andrew Lloyd-Webber's Amigos Para Siempre, a song commissioned for the closing ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

The programme includes a nostalgic journey with the stars of some memorable Walt Disney characters. Well-known theme tunes from The Jungle Book, Peter Pan and Mary Poppins will delight the audience, together with When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio and With a Smile and a Song from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, a film that won eight Oscars in the late 1930s.

Guest artists for this concert include the vocal trio Divas Down Under, local flautist Lisa Boessenkool and a mystery guest artist who is sure to delight the audience.

The choir now numbers about 50 members. The choir attended the Regional New Zealand Choral Federation's SingFest in March, enjoying the interaction with the other choirs in this region. Musical director Joanna Love is keen to see more male singers join to balance the largely female contingent. If you are interested, contact Joanna on 345 9073.

-Reach For the Stars will be held on June 25 at 2pm, at Trinity Methodist Church. Adults $15, children free.
