NOT HAPPY: Candace Mosen says her son found an animal's foot when he bit into a saveloy.

NOT HAPPY: Candace Mosen says her son found an animal's foot when he bit into a saveloy.

Tegel has launched an investigation after a Whanganui woman said she found the foot of a rat or mouse in one of its products.

Candace Mosen said her son Lucas found the foot in a saveloy he put in his mouth when he was having lunch on Tuesday. The story was reported in yesterday's Chronicle.

Tegel human resources general manager Evelyn Davis responded to the complaint yesterday, saying the company took food safety seriously and was looking into the claim.

"Tegel is deeply concerned about the claim and immediately issued a proactive trade withdrawal which is standard procedure until the facts can be confirmed," she said. "Tegel has asked the customer to provide the product, the foreign object and any relevant information in her possession. Tegel looks forward to the customer supplying these items and information, as without them, the investigation cannot be completed."
