A man who caused a car crash near Waitotara that killed a Whangarei woman has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death.
Dasheng Chen appeared in the dock in the Whanganui District Court on crutches before confirming his guilty plea with the help of a translator.
The 54-year-old Gonville man was driving along State Highway 3 on February 16 when he approached a corner and crossed the centre line, into the path of a car driven by 55-year-old Shauna Leitch.
"The impact caused both vehicles to spin and come to a halt on opposite sides of the highway with both vehicles extensively damaged," the police summary of facts said.
Ms Leitch died at the scene, while her husband, 59-year-old Bruce Cameron Leitch, suffered a broken knee.
