It was a day with a focus on families and they were there in their droves at Springvale Park yesterday for the ninth annual Children's Day.
Skip Wanganui organises the event. They usually get between 3000-4000 kids and their families through the doors at Springvale Stadium from 11am-3pm. There are so many activities in fact that some of them spill out onto the playing fields next door.
Lynette Archer of Skip, said the event attracts lots of families "and that's really the aim of the day".
Mrs Archer said Child Youth and Family and the Open Home Foundation started it as a children's day activity but wanted it to become bigger.
"We offered to be the co-ordinators and we've brought all of these organisations together. They're organisations that work alongside families on a not-for-profit basis," she said.
