Tariana Turia will officially hand over the leadership of the Maori Party today.
The party is holding its annual meeting at Whangaehu Marae which will include the election of a co-leader to team up with Te Ururoa Flavell. The leadership will go to the party's only other MP, the newly elected Marama Fox, who is standing unopposed.
Ms Fox, a former teacher who hails from Masterton, came into Parliament on the list after September's election.
Ms Turia entered Parliament in 1996 as a Labour MP but left to form the Maori Party in 2004. She was immediately re-elected at the MP for Te Tai Hauauru. She announced her retirement from politics earlier this year.
The AGM kicked off last night with tribute paid to the Maori Party's outgoing co-leaders Mrs Turia and Dr Pita Sharples.
