Police are asking for help from the public to find a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run in Wanganui on Wednesday night.

A pedestrian was hit by a dark-coloured people mover on Akatea St near Maire St just before 11pm in what police say "appears to be a deliberate act". The pedestrian suffered some injuries but was not hospitalised.

Police would like to speak to the driver and passengers of a white van that stopped to help the pedestrian after they were hit.

If you witnessed the incident or have any information relating to it place contact Constable Robert Parsons of the Whanganui Police on 06 349 0600. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
