Hamilton Old Boys 9 - Hamilton Marist 9
Neither club will have walked away from this game too satisfied as both teams had chances to win the top of the table clash at Fred Jones Park.
While the two teams never really threatened the try-line, Hamilton Old Boys missed six
penalty shots at goal and Hamilton Marist missed four, as the game was dominated by lots of penalties and stop-start play.
The kickers did have their radars on early, however, as Old Boys first five Dean Devcich and Marist first five Wharenui Hawera traded penalties in the first quarter.
The scrappy nature of the game then took over as neither team made much impact on attack, and it wasn't until late in the first half that more points were scored when Old Boys fullback Thomas Bird landed a big penalty from near halfway.
The stalemate continued into the second half as the game didn't open up or flow for either team.
Midway through the second spell Hawera tied the game up for Marist with his second penalty but Old Boys replied instantly with another Bird penalty to put them back in front.
Marist then enjoyed the better of the game in the last quarter, with replacement prop Loni Uhila making a huge impact, and Hawera added the game-tying penalty with 10 minutes to go before then having the chance to snatch a win.
Two penalties attempts in the dying stages from the young Marist pivot were missed, including one right on full time that drifted just wide.
But the draw was probably a fair result in a game that neither team managed to take control of.
The standout players for Old Boys were halfback Troy Lobendahn and flanker Damian Bardoul, while Marist's best were Uhila and centre Niko Malo.

Hautapu 27 - Melville 3
Hautapu were too strong for Melville at Memorial Park in Cambridge as they got their progress back on track after a tough couple of weeks.
The hosts ran in three tries to none with in-form halfback Ruan du Plooy scoring twice and wing Ethan Pollock getting the other.
While Melville fought hard and didn't give up, they barely fired a shot throughout the match and their only scoring action was a Mike Martin penalty.
Otorohanga 32 - Te Awamutu Sports 19
Otorohanga continued their recent local derby dominance over Te Awamutu Sports with a comfortable six tries to three win at Island Reserve.
The hosts jumped out to a big lead by halftime that Te Awamutu couldn't reel in, with both halfback Haami Martin and wing Sekove Seriki scoring twice for Otorohanga.
Te Awamutu responded well after Otorohanga's intial onslaught to win the second half but it was too little, too late for the visitors.
University 81 - Hinuera 5
Hinuera's miserable season continued, this time at the hands of University who put in a clinical performance at the Waikato University fields.
The students were at their attacking best throughout the match as they crossed for 13 tries with wing Ilai Lomani getting a hat-trick, while midfield back Steven Cullingworth and loose forward Sean Nixon both scored doubles.
Hinuera again struggled to keep up for much of the match although did finish positively and got on the scoresheet with a try to loose forward Dion Sylvester.
Fraser Tech 47 - Morrinsville Sports 25
Morrinsville Sports put in a big first half performance at their home ground of Campbell Park but were unable to last against an in-form Fraser Tech side.
Fullback Semisi Masirewa, who scored two tries, was outstanding for the home side while centre Bryce Cowley also got a try and added a conversion and two penalties.
But Tech outlasted the hosts as they took control in the second half, running in a total of eight tries in another comprehensive bonus point win.
