Te Awamutu Sports 35 - Melville 8
Te Awamutu Sports are staying right in touch with the top four after adding another bonus point win against Melville at Collins Road.
The impressive performance away from home in wet conditions was just what Te Awamutu was looking for to back up
their upset win over Hamilton Marist in round twelve.
It was the home side, however, who drew first blood when centre Hika Taewa made a nice run down the left flank and broke through some poor Te Awamutu defence to score.
But the visitors slowly worked their way into the game and went on to score three first half tries, all through patient and smart wet weather rugby, bustling their way over from close to the line on all three occasions.
Loose forward Chris Middleton got the first Te Awamutu try, before halfback Kirtis McNaughten and wing Nani Naturaga also dotted down.
First five Logan Fisher added a penalty for Melville midway through the first half but Te Awamutu's lead had stretched to 21-8 by the break.
The second half was a tight defensive affair with neither team threatening much on attack until Te Awamutu cracked the Melville defence again with 20 minutes remaining - No 8 Jono Armstrong finishing strongly off the back of a scrum for the bonus point try.
Right on full time Middleton added his second try, again after a patient build up, to complete the dominant Te Awamutu performance.
The Te Awamutu forward pack, the front row in particular, were outstanding, while fullback Ryan Meacheam made several line breaks and first five Nathan George kicked well tactically, as well as converting all five Te Awamutu tries.
Melville, who competed well but offered little on attack, were led by impressive young No 8 Jake Ale, while fullback Mike Martin had another solid outing.

Marist first five Wharenui Hawera kept his side in the game by kicking five penalties but Tech's superior attacking ability on the day proved to be the difference.
Hamilton Old Boys 85 - Hinuera 7
Hamilton Old Boys were far too good for Hinuera at Wealleans Park, scoring a whopping 13 tries in a nice boost to their points difference.
Hooker Vance Elliot and backs Rena Schuster and Thomas Bird all scored two tries as Old Boys were ruthless in racking up the score, particularly in the second half.

But Hautapu wore down the hosts and ended up scoring a total of five tries with two each to loose forward Stefan Destounis and back Todd Doolan.
