Hamilton Marist 18 - Hamilton Old Boys 3
Hamilton Marist kicked their way to a well-deserved win over Hamilton Old Boys at Marist Park which has assured them home advantage for the semi-finals.
Young Marist first five Wharenui Hawera landed a perfect six from six penalties in a tryless match
which was dominated by penalty infringements and solid defence from both teams.
Discipline let Old Boys down early in the match and Hawera made them pay - kicking four penalties in the opening quarter to quickly push Marist out to a 12-0 lead.
The rest of the half was an even contest, dominated by defence, and neither team was able to add to the scoreboard.
Shortly after halftime Old Boys fullback Kane Adams kicked a penalty and the visitors' finally looked to be working their way into the match.
But Marist repelled the brief challenge and midway through the second half the home side slowly regained the ascendancy. Hawera then added two more penalties to extend the lead to a comfortable margin and put the result beyond doubt.
Marist finished the match strongly and were unlucky not to add a couple of tries, while Old Boys' effort was highlighted by their lack of punch on attack.
The standouts for Marist were their loose forward trio of Anthony Tuhoro, Marty Holah and Josaan Levien, while Hawera's kicking game was deadly accurate and his opposite Thomas Bird also had a good day with his kicking in general play.
Fraser Tech 32 - Morrinsville Sports 19
Fraser Tech did just enough against Morrinsville Sports to wrap up the Haswell Catley Trophy as the top team after round robin play.
Wing Matt Kenny (2), flanker Joe Scheres and first five Sam Christie all scored in Tech's bonus point win which nudged them ahead of Hamilton Marist into lone first place.
But Morrinsville played their part in the match, pressuring Tech regularly, and were rewarded with three tries to wing Jason Chambers, first five Andre Wilson and replacement back Vesi Rauluni.
University 55 - Hinuera 14
University produced a fine display of attacking rugby to easily account for Hinuera.
The students scored nine tries in total with three to wing Louis Rogers and two from loose forward Sean Nixon. Lock Brian Alainu'uese, flanker Whetu Douglas, centre Leon Williams and wing Sirilo Tabudravu also got on the scoresheet.
Hinuera, with the typical fighting spirit they have shown all year, produced a good second half to score tries through prop Khan Underwood and wing Marley Papalii.
Hautapu 36 - Melville 7
Hautapu finished their regular season on a high with a solid win over Melville.
Flanker Kane Jacobson (2), fullback Bauro Kairaoi, wing Ethan Pollock and hooker Sam van der Valk scored the visitor's five tries in a match they dominated.
Melville's only score of the game was a second half try to young prop Joe Walsh, converted by Logan Fisher.
