Rugby: Buzz lifts Chiefs in back to back finals bid

Hood St will be closed to celebrate the Chiefs' place in tomorrow's Investec Super Rugby final at Waikato Stadium. Hamilton Central Business Association and Phoenix Group will host a family-friendly event to mark the occasion. The street will be closed tomorrow from 5.30pm. Festivities will include stilt walkers, face painting, giveaways, entertainment and large screens.

Hamilton city has been all red, yellow and black as finals' fever grips the city for the final.

The Chiefs host the ACT Brumbies in tomorrow's final and the city council has shown its support for the home team. Lights on Victoria Bridge and Garden Place fountains will flash in Chiefs' colours while franchise flags will adorn the city's main street and the main highway entrances will welcome visitors with Chiefs-themed billboards.

Mayor Julie Hardaker welcomes Hamilton hosting the final and helps it will build on the city and region's reputation of achieving sporting excellence.

"We are proud of the franchise and our opportunity to host another final has the city buzzing," says Mayor Hardaker.

"Our city gets in behind large sporting events and hosting a New Zealand vs Australia final adds another level of excitement.

" It would be great for all our businesses, schools and workplaces to all show their support by displaying and wearing the team colours," she said.

"Go the Chiefs! Hamilton city and the Waikato region are right behind you," said Mayor Hardaker.
