The TWHCNC Year 7 and Year 8 representative tournament was held yesterday.

The weather was outstanding with bright blue skies and this allowed some great netball to be played. It was also an excellent opportunity for spectators and supporters to watch.

Ten teams entered into Year 7 and these were broken into two pools of five. Year 8 had nine teams they were also broken into two pools of five and four. Each pool played a round robin to determine a winner. Games were 10 minutes each way with two minutes half time. Teams entered included Cambridge, Eastern Waikato, Hamilton City, Harbourside, Howick Pakuranga, KCE Maniapoto, Mercury Bay, Otorohanga, Rotorua and Paper Plus Te Awamutu.

Games started at 9.30 am and 10 rounds of netball ensued alternating rounds of Y7 and Y8 games. Prize giving saw the winners of each pool receiving individual medals.

The results were as follows:

Given the age of these players there was some skilled and nice netball on display giving the observer a glimpse of the players they may become in the future.

These tournaments are a good opportunity for centres to compare themselves and to expose their players to different teams and styles of paly.

The tournament could not be run without the assistance of the many volunteers on the day including the umpires, coaches, managers, officials and admin support.
