Silver Fern Laura Langman received top honours at the annual University of Waikato Blues Awards

The former Hillcrest High School student was named sportswoman of the year for her outstanding achievements in netball.

Another former Hillcrest High student Adam Maha was awarded the Pou Ahurea award for Maori person of the year award for his achievements in music composition.

The 2011 Wallace Corporation University of Waikato Blues acknowledge the university's top sporting and creative and performing arts students.

This year, more than 50 Blues were given to athletes and artists representing a range of disciplines.

Hamilton award winners include other former Hillcrest High students Anjali Thakker (ice hockey), Susannah Leydon-Davis (badminton) and Andrew Leathwick (pianist); former Hamilton Boys' High students David De la Rue (squash), Matthew Rees-Gibbs (hockey), and Jeremy Mayall (composition); former Sacred Heart Girls' College students Casey Stevens (surf lifesaving); former Waikato Diocesan students Kim Tanner (hockey), Natalie Dodd (cricket), Philippa Sutton (cycling), and Shelby Wilson (swimming); former St Peter's students Hannah Seifert (golf), and Timothy Carpenter (cello); and former St Paul's Collegiate student Jennifer Spark (composition).

The Blues celebrate the commitment and achievements of students, teams and coaches.

Awards for services to sport and the creative and performing arts are also given.
