Two kickboxers from Hamilton fought at the recent King in the Ring event in Auckland but fell short of a win.

Isaac Tshikula had an early elimination as he was knocked out by his opponent Zion Perry in the first round.

Alejandro Tellez reached the finals of the competition, after winning the quarter-final and semi-final fights by first-round stoppage.

In the quarter-finals, he took on Reuben Woodmass, who agreed to enter the tournament on two weeks’ notice, as Tellez’ previous opponent Evander Agnew was forced to pull out due to injury.

Tellez stopped Woodmass in the first round.

In the semi-finals, Tellez took on Onjanenh Rott.

Wasting no time, Tellez chopped down Rott’s legs with a large amount of low kicks, sending Rott to the ground, giving Tellez the victory by first-round stoppage, his second in a row.

In the final, Tellez took on Zion Perry, who had already stopped Tshikula.

Unfortunately, Tellez didn’t win the finals. In the second round, Perry used a high kick to the head to knock out Tellez.

Perry is now the 8th King in the Ring champion in the 62kg division.
