Jadene Treadaway has won the New Zealand national (Pro Box NZ) lightweight title in a fight against Macy Smith.

The fight took place as part of the Iron Fist 20 event at Don Rowlands Event Centre, Lake Karapiro, on Saturday.

For Treadaway, who won the title by majority decision, it was her second shot at the title after she fought Tricia MacKenzie for it in July.

The win made her the fifth overall New Zealand Lightweight champion.

However, Smith did not make it easy for her, coming out hard from round one.

The fight was a rematch of their pro debut fight in December 2024, which ended in a draw.

Asked about what’s next for Treadaway, her trainer, Nigel Elliott, hinted at a possible international fight in May.

Treadaway is looking up to and hopes to join the line of great New Zealand lightweight champions, including former WIBA World Lightweight and Muay Thai World champion Gentiane Lupi, and IBO World Super Bantamweight Champion Mea Motu.

Another boxer fighting at the Iron Fist 20 event was Saskia Elliott, daughter of Treadaway’s coach Nigel Elliott, who also won her fight.

Saskia Elliott took on Elleina Andrews and impressed all three judges, scoring the win by unanimous decision.

She is now focusing on trying to qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

Her eyes are firmly set on fights in Brazil at the World Boxing World Cup.

However, she might be returning to professional boxing as soon as November.

Her father, trainer and manager have already thought about a couple of opponents for her, including WIBA World Featherweight champion Stasia Waimaria.

This would be a big step up for Saskia Elliott, and combined with the international experience she gains from the World Cup and possibly from the Commonwealth Games, could give her an advantage.

Meanwhile, also fighting on the Iron Fist 20 card were Cambridge’s Ericka Stark, who defeated Wellington’s Talei Aldiss by unanimous decision, and Hamilton’s Aldo Monti, who defeated Tokoroa’s Ethan Batley by second-round stoppage.

For Stark and Monti, it was their professional boxing debut.
