A man accused of stabbing a Hamilton man made an emotional appearance when he appeared in court today.

Kelvin Thomas Marshall Barton, a shearer living in Gore, burst into tears when he saw his family and friends standing in the public gallery of the Hamilton District Court this morning.

Barton, 29, faces a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an alleged stabbing at a house in Langdon Ln, Melville, about 10.15pm on Saturday.

Barton and the Hamilton victim are known to each other.

A man, who the Herald believes is the victim, was also in the gallery with family, and was carrying a drip containing what appeared to be blood as well as a hospital issue pillow. The man had bandages on his hands and a bandage on his chest.

The supporters had to be asked to sit down by the court registrar before she could deal with the matter.

The registrar remanded Barton on bail without plea to reappear in two weeks.

He has several bail conditions which include a curfew, not contacting the victim and not drinking alcohol.
