Motorists were told to find alternative routes after two crashes blocked state highways on opposite corners of Waikato this afternoon.

According to police, the first crash was reported about 12.45pm on State Highway 25 at Thames Coast Rd near Kereta.

“Initial indications are that there have been serious injuries in the crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle,” a spokesperson said.

Police advised drivers to avoid the area and expect delays.

An alert from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said SH25 had reopened at 2.35pm.

“Allow extra time for delays to ease,” the alert said.

On the other side of the region, police are responding to a single-vehicle crash on SH3.

In a crash reported about 1.45pm, a truck rolled on Mokau Rd near Mohakatino Rd, Mokau, police said.

The driver was reported to be in a moderate to serious condition.

An NZTA alert said SH3/Mohakatino Rd was still closed at 2.30pm and motorists were advised to take an alternate route.

“Road users are advised to delay your journey or avoid the area.”

Hato Hone St John has been approached for comment.
