Hamilton company Viva Apps are well on their way to global recognition with a new smartphone application after winning the Dragons Den competition at Waikato University.

The team of four Waikato entrepreneurs developed Vmail, an application that allows users to record short voice messages and send them to anybody
on their contact list, a bit like a walkie-talkie, but with messages received in a similar fashion to email.

The developers say that while all other voice messaging apps only enable messages to be sent between users who have the same app, Vmail will open up the mode of communication to anyone making it the first app of its kind.

Ahmed Basha, CEO of Viva Apps said that they are confident that the unique voice messaging application will change the way people communicate.

"Our goal is for Vmail to reach over ten million users in twelve months."

Nick Kemp, CTO of Viva Apps also described the appeal of the app:

"We will initially offer this app for free but believe users will be drawn to it as it's beautiful looking, easy to use, and makes messaging easier."

Viva Apps has engaged local app developer MEA Mobile to develop the iPhone version of the app with the Android version of Vmail developed in house by lead Android Developer Iggy Tsai.
