Truck crash on SH1 in Putaruru leaves one dead, road reopens

One person has died following a crash involving a truck on State Highway 1 in Putaruru.

Police were notified of the crash between a truck and a parked car near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Sholson St just after 7am.

The truck driver was unresponsive when emergency services arrived at the crash scene, a statement from police said.

They said medical attention was immediately provided but he could not be revived.

SH1 between Princes St and Main St roundabout was closed for several hours.

In an update at 12.30pm, NZ Transport Agency said the road had reopened.
