Doggie play-dates are becoming a popular pastime for dog owners thanks to a Facebook page set up by a Hamilton teacher.
Diana Bird, a teacher at Maeroa Intermediate, said it was her love of dogs that inspired her to set up her Facebook page Trondogs, which now has 116 members.
"I've been dog mad for years," said Diana.
"What started as a Facebook discussion group has become more of a walking group."
As well as organising walks, the Trondog Facebook page is full of useful advice and tips on dog management.
"I feel there is a lot we can do to help more people out, to let them know not all dogs behave perfectly. It's about encouraging responsible dog ownership."
Not all dogs are the same and Diana recognises that many dog owners avoid taking their dogs to local dog parks.
"We walk in many locations, Te Aroha, Karapiro, Ngaroto, anywhere really, and most walks are on-leash walks with a lot of dogs that aren't suitable for dog parks," said Diana.
A core group meets regularly and every breed of dog is welcome.
"Our biggest walk we maybe had a dozen dogs with a real mix of breeds, little ones to big ones," said Diana.
