Brian Wellington's family are hosting a quiz night to raise funds for Hospice Waikato.

Brian Wellington's family are hosting a quiz night to raise funds for Hospice Waikato.

A Te Awamutu family is hosting a quiz night to raise funds for Hospice Waikato, a charity that is very special to them.

On April 14, 2017 Te Awamutu man Brian Wellington, 61, lost his battle with cancer.

During his last week of life he went into Hospice care, which provided the family with meals and support.

So the Wellington family is now saying thank you to the charity by hosting a fundraiser quiz night next week.

Brian's daughter Susan says Hospice Waikato supported the family in the "toughest time of their lives".

"As a family we had counselling and dad was given the opportunity to create a biography of his life - unfortunately he didn't get to finish it.

"This organisation is absolutely amazing and we want to do all that we can to ensure this support continues for other families in their time of need."

The quiz night will have silent and live auctions and raffles. Two tickets for Ed Sheeran's sold-out Auckland show are among the auction items.

The Wellington family is now calling on local businesses to donate prizes, vouchers or money to go towards quiz night prizes.

They are hoping to raise $5000 for Hospice Waikato.

"We would love it if your business could donate to this worthy cause."

The quiz night is on Friday, August 25 at the Te Awamutu Sports Rooms. Doors open at 6.30pm.
