Two people have died and two have been badly hurt in a crash in eastern Waikato.

The two-car crash happened on State Highway 26 at Te Aroha at about 3.53pm, police said.

The two injured people have been taken to hospital.

“The road at Mangaiti continues to be closed, motorists are asked to avoid the area,” police said.
