SH1 crash at Pōkeno: Road reopened after tractor blocks southbound lanes

State Highway 1 southbound at Pōkeno has reopened after a tractor and trailer rolled, causing significant delays for motorists.

Both lanes south were blocked by the single-vehicle crash, reported about 2.30pm, closing the motorway after the Bombay off-ramp for several hours.

One person has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

While the crash has now been cleared, delays are expected to continue as congestion eases.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and seek an alternative route at 5pm, with police expecting the lanes to remain closed “for at least two hours”.

Diversions were in place at Mill Rd.

Data from Google showed that traffic was already backed up more than 1.5km going into the afternoon’s commute rush.
