A small Waikato community has seen two “unrelated” fatal crashes in one day.

A police spokesperson said the latest single-vehicle crash occurred on Oregan Rd, Ngāhinapōuri, at about 7.45pm on Sunday.

“One person died at the scene, a second person sustained serious injuries,” the spokesperson said.

The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.

Police confirmed to the Herald that the two crashes in Ngāhinapōuri were “unrelated”.

Police were alerted to the first single-vehicle crash on State Highway 39 at around 8.55am.

The person died at the scene, despite the efforts of emergency services. No one else was injured in the crash.
