SunSmart ambassador Undercover Cody will celebrate his 10th birthday this month with a roadshow to more than 150 Waikato and Bay of Plenty schools.

The Cancer Society turtle's birthday celebrations got off to a start at Rhode St School on Monday where the roadshow campaign was launched.

Staff and students at the school were the first to see Cody's high-energy new show promoting the 'slip, slop, slap and wrap' message.

The roadshow has been created by local playwright Renee Boyer-Willisson. Renee has written a number of successful scripts, including 'One Grubby Clown' which was shortlisted for the Storylines by Joy Cowley Award. Her recent script 'The smell of rain' has been selected for Chennai, Brisbane and Canberra festivals.

"The Cancer Society is taking the new Undercover Cody roadshow to schools around the Waikato and Bay of Plenty for three full weeks this November and providing each child that attends the show with a free gift bag of Undercover Cody educational resources," said society Waikato Bay of Plenty spokesperson Rachael Mounsey.

"It's going to be an exciting and interactive show that includes all those vital messages about being SunSmart this summer and we cannot wait to see the kids' reaction to it." She said the school was the perfect place to hold the launch as it has been SunSmart accredited for several years and knows it is essential we keep kids safe in the sun.
